Rancho Las Palmas Has it All
Tennis at Rancho Las Palmas. We’d signed up to take in the Monday morning Adult tennis clinic at the Rancho Las Palmas Resort. Located in Ranch Mirage, in the Palm Springs area of California, the tennis program is run by Cliff Drysdale Tennis Management. The 24 state-of-the-art courts are situated in the middle of a beautiful palm tree lined golf course, with the towering San Jacinto mountains in the background.
When we drove up to the security check-in at the resort, the staff was very welcoming, providing us with a parking pass and direction to the courts. The golf pro-shop and tennis club are in the same facility. It wasn’t hard finding our way to the courts, as we followed the contingent of fellow tennis warriors migrating from the parking lot. We’re all up early to take advantage of the cool morning.
The the reception center at the tennis facility overlooks the courts where you can relax, before or after the game. There’s usually a group on the show-court and it’s fun to watch the locals locked in a match with some friendly banter.
It can be warm in the desert even in late October, which may discourage some, but an advantage to those of us who end up with a smaller group at today’s clinic. At the reception desk in the Pro shop Eliot Pegg , the Director of Tennis, gave us a warm welcome. After introductions we shared some tennis stories and discussed the arrangements for the morning. After the clinic Teri and I will be shooting a Tennis Tourist Video with Elliot and Rob Wright, the Head Tennis Professional, so we need to set things up for that. Then it’s time for the Daily Tennis Clinic. Today the focus is on ground strokes, but since there are only two of us, we get to work a bit on our net-game as well. Elliot really put us to the test, running lots of fun drills and challenging us at the same time.
Coming to a resort like Rancho Las Palmas really is like tennis heaven. The scenery is phenomenal, the weather perfect, the tennis courts outstanding and the people so welcoming. In my next blog, I’ll share what we learned about the tennis programs offered , as well as some of the many activities you will find at the Rancho Las Palmas Resort and Spa .
