Poet’s Cove-One Of the Western Hemisphere’s 10 Best Marinas has a Tennis Court
And a Very Laid Back Atmosphere
Poet’s Cove-Tennis at One Of the Western Hemisphere’s 10 Best Marinas. Nestled in an inspiring sheltered bay on Pender, one of Canada’s Gulf Islands in the legendary Salish Sea off the coast of British Columbia.
Poet’s Cove is a resort with cottages, a lodge, fabulous fitness and recreation facilities. It has been named one of the Western Hemisphere’s 10 Best Marinas by Motorboat and Sailing Magazine, but it’s much more laid back than you would expect for a place that has earned that reputation.
The resort does have one hard surface tennis court that is nestled up against a lush west coast forest scattered with hiking trails. Racquets are available for guest use. A multi-sport court (basketball and volleyball), & table tennis top are also available.

Hiking Trails around Poet’s Cove
Beaumont & Mt. Norman, part of Gulf Islands National Parks Reserve
Both Beaumont Park & Mt. Norman can be accessed from Canal Rd. on the way to Poets Cove. You can also access them by water, as they are only a short paddle from Poets Cove Marina. We recommend renting a kayak to get you there!
If you arrive at the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve access off of Canal Rd., you can select one of two trails; a walk along the shoreline will take you to Beaumont Park, and a hike up Mt. Norman will bring you to a beautiful lookout of Sidney Spit & the Olympic Mountain Range; as Mt. Norman is the highest point on Pender Island, with an elevation of 320 meters, its peak offers a magnificent panoramic view. Remember to pack your camera for this one!
Greenburn Lake
Enjoy the hike up along the old access road to picturesque Greenburn Lake, surrounded by high bluffs. It is accessed beside the fire hall on Gowlland Point Rd., just past the turn into Poets Cove. It is easily accessed on foot from the resort; the walk to the base is a short 20 minutes, and the hike up to the lake is approximately 25 minutes.
2hr Interpretive Hike to Greenburn lake (includes water and snack) $30. For booking contact Activities Office by the lower pool or call 2116
The Enchanted Forest Trail
This easy trail is an approximate 25 minute hike to a seasonal waterfall. Enjoy a fairly flat walk through a lovely piece of Pender Island, where you can observe several different plant species. Its trail head is located on Spalding Rd., on the way from the ferry dock to Poets Cove, and is an easy walk along the road from the resort.
Roe Lake
Located on North Pender Island, Roe Lake is a lovely secluded spot atop a quiet ridge. While the hike itself is not particularly difficult, there is a section of trail that leads steeply uphill towards the lake. The serene area is covered in mostly second growth Douglas fir trees, and boasts a rarity in the Gulf Islands – a natural freshwater lake. Well worth the uphill trek!
Where To Stay-Poets Cove Resort and Spa
The Poet’s Cove Resort and Spa is situated on on Bedwell Harbour on the north part of Pender Island and is truly a luxurious oasis surrounded by wilderness.
